What Does a Board-Certified Veterinary Cardiologist Do?

At GCVS, our board-certified veterinary cardiologist diagnoses and treats cardiovascular (heart and vessels) disease in pets. We provide long-term care for chronic diseases, including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, dilated cardiomyopathy, degenerative mitral valve disease, and heartworm disease, to ensure your pet has the best quality of life possible while managing their condition.

What to Expect

Your primary veterinarian may have detected an abnormality in your pet’s heart and has recommended that you consult with a veterinary cardiologist for further care, long-term treatment, or a definitive diagnosis.

When you schedule an appointment, we work closely with your primary veterinarian to gather your medical records and relevant information prior to your visit, including any diagnostic tests that have been performed.

During your pet’s consultation, our cardiologist will discuss your pet’s lifestyle, diet, and medical history. They will examine your pet, prioritizing the heart and lungs. Upon their initial assessment, they will walk you through recommendations for further testing, like X-rays, echocardiograms, or ECG, and develop a treatment plan. At this point, they will answer any questions you may have before moving forward.
